The “Plated” cookbook is designed to highlight some of the most successful recipes of the “Plated” home meal delivery service which ships meal preparation items nationwide in the USA. This is a beginner-intermediate-advanced cookbook, and just a great resource to have around for quick sauces, marinades, rubs, dressings, drinks, meals and desserts. The book covers all of the basic cooking 101 tips including cookware must haves and pantry ingredients and builds upon those concepts for the beginner cook to the more advanced cook. The ultimate goal is to help empower the reader to have fun in the kitchen and also be successful with cooking everyday meals. Elana Karp and Suzanne Dumaine’s enthusiasm for encouraging experimentation in the kitchen and demystifying the secret of delicious home cooked meals really shines through in this book. The book has recipes for practically every type of meal from dinners, breakfast, creative ways to use left overs, entertaining, and desserts. Most recipes are laid out with other complimentary side dish recipes to comprise an entire meal. Some of the recipes which caught my attention are: White Lasagna with Butternut Squash, Kale and Mushrooms, Buttermilk-Brined Fried Chicken with Cheddar Cornbread and Hot Pepper Jelly, Spinach and Goat Cheese Frittata with Gruyere and Thyme Biscuits, Dim Sum: Pork and Chive Shumai, Tofu-Scallion Dumplings, and Shrimp Gyoza, Clafoutis with Fresh Cherries, Key Lime Pie, Epic Pecan and Pumpkin Pie. There are also some great party planning menus and even a Thanksgiving meal menu with time saving and prep tips which would particularly be helpful for a new home cook. I appreciate the beautiful photography included on the book’s cover and pages. I received this book from “Blogging for Books” for an honest review.
